Each year, the Joint Committee identifies an Annual theme with the goal of focusing our prison and institution ministry on a specific topic and area of activity. We are learning and feeling this as we go. We are grateful to be workers together for a common cause, but even more so we recognize that we are members of the same spiritual family loving, supporting and being there for each other.
In the spirit of the question asked by Christian Science founder, Mary Baker Eddy: “How can I progress most rapidly in the understanding of Christian Science?” and her answer: “Study thoroughly the letter and imbibe the spirit” (S&H 495:27-28), all are invited to join together in study and sharing the theme’s inspiration and fruitage through out the year.
The following are monthly study topics for our family as we work to “open their prison doors” (S&H 366:30) and set “the captive free physically and morally” (S&H 495:13):
• March: “Enlarge the place of thy tent”
• April: “Stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations”
• May: “Forget self in laboring for mankind”
• June: “Sacrifice self to bless one another as God has blessed
you”
• July: Invitation from our Leader: “...drink with me the living
waters of my life-purpose – to impress humanity with the genuine
recognition of practical ...Christian Science”
• August and September: “...drink with me the living waters of my life-purpose –
to impress humanity with the genuine recognition of ...operative
Christian Science”
October – Annual Conference, where we review together our month-by-
month focus on our theme
November – December – continue to share the fruitage of our
work together
In 2017, our annual theme was “One Grand Family of Christ’s Followers." You can read the write-up of that work in the latest newsletter posted in our archive, found here.
